The Journey Continues

After moving to Montana from Toronto, I was still very interested in the internet but didn’t actually become involved as a marketer until 2002. I joined a very and I mean very expensive program (5 figures) that was “guaranteed to get my business up and running. htmlIt did have a very good piece of software – web based that helped build html web sites. But the training was sporadic and thin. We were on bi-weekly coaching calls with a Q & A session. In the end it was very ineffective, if you were one of the lucky ones to get a question answered you often came away more confused than when you started. There were no guides or tutorials and in those days certainly no videos.

I put up a number of niche sites, had them monetized with products and Adsense. But no real idea of what I was doing. The products related to my niche sites, but I didn’t have any faith in them or passion for them. I wrote articles for each of them. I put Google Analytics on them I started tracking traffic.  But no sales. It took me 5 years on 10 sites to make $100 in Adsense revenue. I joined a bazillion article marketing sites and wrote tons of articles linking back to my sites … but the directories were not effective. I found lots of them but somehow missed out on Ezine Articles!

I was so disappointed and so deeply in debt I was through with the internet. I felt beat up and abused. I maintained my sites more or less as a hobby but no one told me it was important to make my own products. I thought that affiliate marketing was it! That was the business model I bought into and thought I was doing everything I could to be successful. I worked long hours (8 hrs at my day job and another 10 on IM).

So I quit! Some weeks I didn’t even look at my niche sites. I was resigned to concluding that I was a failure, I couldn’t make it in Internet Marketing.
